I love lots of languages, including German.

I really despise English, though.

Why do you despise English? Aren't you from the USA? Or are you originally from another country? x)
Well I like English a lot! I hope to get better.. Not only that English sounds nice, everybody has to learn it in school! That means that almost everybody can understand you! It's the perfect language for me, I don't like being not understood! x)

I despise English because:

1. It is notorious for breaking it's own rules in grammar.
2. It is the most difficult language to learn.
3. It is #1 in popularity, yet, very few get it right.
4. There are thousands of known dialects of English. Only a handful people will understand.
5. English "steals" words from other languages and then butchers the words.
6. English as a language changes often, a local dialect can change dramatically in as little as a decade.
7. It is the worst-sounding language in America. English only sounds good when spoken by a person from England that is not from London.
8. Southern-American, Cockney, Ghetto/Ebonics are NOT dialects of English. They are abominations of a language.
9. Minnesotans claim to speak American English the best, but they're really no better than anyone else. Our most commonly asked question is, "what?"
10. Ligatures and accented characters in our language have no real function except for aesthetics.

I like German because:

1. The grammar is solid, and is inflexible. There is only one correct way to say something. If you're wrong, they'll let you know.
2. The sound of German is just really nice on the ears. Except Plattdeutsch... that's hard to understand.
3. German has direct ties to the ancient Latin, and some ties to Greek.
4. When you say something in German, it's almost instantly recognized, unlike English.
5. Speaking German consonants, diphthongs, and vowels I feel is an artform. You really have to work at it. Once you've mastered it, German is a beautiful language. English is boring.
6. Speaking German gives you a distinct feeling of complexity, that you're intelligent and proud.
7. Making a speech in German will most often be remembered just because of its sheer power in the language's sound.
8. Germany is in my blood. Because of which, it drives me to learn the language.
9. I don't have to guess how to pronounce a word I've never seen before. I'm right most of the time. If there's a word in English that I've never seen before, I most often say it wrong! (And I speak English natively!)
10. The language of German can associate itself with a rich, colourful history. It stands for precision, power, evolution, pride, and greatness. Many of the world's greatest people spoke German.

Well, if somebody interested in my imho:
1)The most difficult it's probably Japanese or Chinese, with their hieroglyphs. :D
2)Sorry, but the worst-sounding for me is German. I hate these barking and harsh sounds.
3)It seems Swahilly or Zulu in my blood. ;) It's very easy to learn. (And very easy to forget too...)
You must take your place in the circle of life.

^Reminds me of Hitler... *chokes*

Not hating on German.. I once wanted to learn it myself but found it harder to grasp than any other language

Hitler was remembered because of his profound impact... not because of what he said.

Kari, Sonic Gods Eltern waren deutschsprachig - oder so.

Sonic, aren't ya able to translate this? :D

Humm. Yeah, I'm very proud of speaking German, it's a very beautiful language, I think. And I also see it in films: German has a very wide bandwith of ways to speak. Powerful, calm, quietly, ...

But: Yeah, German is hard to learn.
Here we have one "joke sentence": "Deutsche Sprache schwere Sprache."
Means "german language hard language" - as maybe one who doesn't know German well would say, without using a time word (Verb?).
It's just an insider.

And I really think English is easy to learn for europeans.

Sonic God, I just think: English is more a buisness language, so not aesthetical, but useful.

Finally, a question to Sarafina:
Sarafina, are you doing sth. with World of Warcraft!? x)
I mean, I haven't looked at ya arts page for ages, because it always was defect, I never could see the pictures. But today...I recognized that it's ready again! Great! And I discovered some Wow pics ;)
(The elf-lioness was pretty cool!)

Hihi! Funny. So - what's the secret about, Saffy? *being very interested*

2 Sonic God:

2. It is the most difficult language to learn.
English is surely not the most difficult language! I haven't studied any languages but I can say that Japanese, Chinese etc. is well, maybe 30 times more difficult!! For sure! You don't have to learn the grammer, vocab and pronunciation only, but also those letters..

5. English "steals" words from other languages and then butchers the words.
German also uses many words from other languages. Mainly from English and French.

6. English as a language changes often, a local dialect can change dramatically in as little as a decade.
You seem to have absolutely no clue about how many bad dialects there are in Germany ._. Lol I guess there are dialects you would never understand, because even some Germans who live in another region can't, either xD Each language has it's dialects.

2. The sound of German is just really nice on the ears. Except Plattdeutsch... that's hard to understand.
Plattdeutsch isn't really German imho ._. Well but that German's nice to the ear isn't really true %))) I would consider the words 'hard'. English sounds nicer than German!

6. Speaking German gives you a distinct feeling of complexity, that you're intelligent and proud.
Oh really? There are many language you can be proud of when you can speak them x) There exist so many difficult languages... Of course you can be pround when you can understand German, but that's the same with other languages when you learned them.

7. Making a speech in German will most often be remembered just because of its sheer power in the language's sound.
That's true. German is a 'powerful' language. As I mentioned earlier it's words are hard and dry. That's why I don't think it sounds nice...

9. I don't have to guess how to pronounce a word I've never seen before. I'm right most of the time. If there's a word in English that I've never seen before, I most often say it wrong! (And I speak English natively!)
You're right with that, too. Sometimes in English there are words where the 'ea' is pronounced like 'ee' but sometimes it's pronounced different ... I can give an example now x) But in German new words are mostly spoken like similar words, that makes it easy to pronounce them.
